Fading Hearts: A King Size Quilt in Neutrals, Grey, and Red

King size handmade heart quilt hanging outdoors with neutral hearts on a pale grey background, red patchwork chains, and allover swirl quilting.
Fading Hearts – 104″ x 104″ (king)

“Fading Hearts” is built around a simple idea: let the heart blocks gradually shift from light neutrals into deeper browns, gray, and black, while a bright red chain pattern holds the composition together.

The hearts move through ivory, tan, taupe, gray, brown, and black across a pale grey background. That gradual change in value gives the quilt its name and keeps the large surface visually active without relying on a wide range of colors. The red patchwork chains create a strong geometric framework, crossing the quilt in diagonal paths and giving the softer heart shapes a crisp counterpoint.

At 104 inches square, this is a generously sized king quilt. The large format gives the repeated heart-and-chain structure room to develop across the entire bed rather than reading as a collection of isolated blocks. Allover swirling longarm quilting adds another layer of movement, particularly across the pale background where the stitched texture is easiest to see.

The quilt is made with 100% cotton fabric and wool batting. The wool gives it a slightly loftier texture while keeping the finished quilt flexible enough to drape naturally over a bed.

From a distance, the red chains dominate the composition; closer up, the fading sequence of heart fabrics and the variation among the neutral prints become much more apparent. The result is romantic without being overly sweet, and traditional in motif without feeling visually old-fashioned.
