Garden Grove starts with the feel of a formal garden: individual floral and patchwork blocks set into a strong, repeating framework. The dark forest green lattice gives the quilt its structure, while the cream block backgrounds create enough open space for the applique and piecing to stand out clearly.

What I like most about this quilt is the way the design shifts between curved and angular movement. Several blocks are built from applique flowers, vines, leaves, and stems, giving the quilt a botanical character. Others use more traditional patchwork geometry: star-like units, checkerboard piecing, and medallion-style blocks in plum, magenta, wedgewood blue, and cream. Together, those sections keep the quilt from reading as either strictly floral or strictly geometric. It has both the softness of a garden quilt and the order of a pieced sampler.

The surrounding floral print adds another layer of visual texture. Instead of a plain setting fabric, the pink, purple, and blue floral print fills the outer spaces and repeats on the reverse side, tying the front and back together. The dark green border finishes the piece with a grounded frame, so the lighter center blocks do not float away visually.

At 75″ x 75″, Garden Grove is a versatile square quilt. It can work as a generous twin quilt, a full bed topper, a large sofa throw, or a textile wall hanging where the full block layout can be seen at once. The quilt is made with 100% cotton fabric face and backing, with breathable cotton fill. It was inspired by a Jill Finley design.
