Blue Stars began with one of the things I like most about geometric patchwork: a relatively small group of shapes can create a much larger design once color and repetition take over. Across this 19″ x 37″ table runner, three star-like medallions emerge from a network of triangles, diamonds, and squares.
The palette stays largely in the blue family but moves from pale blue through turquoise, navy, and deep teal, with touches of purple providing both contrast and continuity. Against the white background, those darker values define the stars clearly from a distance. Up close, the individual prints and smaller patchwork shapes become much more apparent. A narrow purple binding echoes the purple accents within the piecing and gives the runner a crisp outer frame.
Machine quilting adds another layer of movement across the surface. Curving quilted lines soften the strong geometry of the piecing, while diagonal quilting in selected white areas reinforces some of the angles already present in the patchwork. The result has enough texture to reward a closer look without competing with the stars themselves.
Made with cotton fabric and cotton batting, at 19″ x 37″ Blue Stars is suitable for a dining table, buffet, sideboard, or console where the full pattern can remain visible.
