Block Party started with the energy of simple squares: small blocks, large blocks, and a color palette that moves between clear aqua, cobalt blue, teal, emerald green, deep purple, and ruby red. The structure is orderly, but the visual effect is lively, with the blocks arranged so the eye keeps moving across the surface rather than settling into a strict grid.
The upper portion of the quilt is built from smaller squares scattered across a light background, creating a sense of motion and sparkle. The scale then shifts into larger blocks, giving the quilt more visual weight and making the color fields feel bolder. The black botanical-print fabrics act almost like punctuation marks within the layout: they interrupt the bright jewel tones, add contrast, and tie the center of the quilt to the darker border sections.
That contrast gives Block Party its character: iIt is colorful without being random, modern without being stark, and playful without losing structure. The white background keeps the composition open, while the jewel tones give it enough depth to work as a strong accent piece in a living room, guest room, studio, or reading space.
The quilting adds another layer of movement. The stitched curves soften the square geometry and give texture across both the light background and the saturated color blocks. Up close, the quilting creates a secondary pattern that changes with the light; from a distance, the larger block layout remains the main visual story.
Block Party measures 68″ x 76″. It is made with 100% cotton fabric and cotton fill, with a quieter neutral two-tone denim blue reverse side. The backing gives the quilt a calmer second face, while the front remains the more graphic, color-forward side.
The design was inspired by a Brigitte Heitland pattern and finished as a one-of-a-kind Creeksong Quilts piece.
